Getting started

How do I make my first barcode?

Answer

To make your first barcode on Barcode Rocket, open the home page, click Books, then ISBN, and type your 13-digit ISBN. When PRINT CHECK says Ready, click Download vector PDF. You need no account for a book barcode.

Steps

  1. Open the studio on the home page.
  2. Click Books, then ISBN.
  3. Leave the switch on Price.
  4. Type your ISBN. Hyphens and spaces are fine.
  5. Type the price, for example 19.99. Or leave the price empty: the barcode then gets 90000, the code for "no price".
  6. Wait for the picture. PRINT CHECK shows three green checks and the badge Ready.
  7. Click Download vector PDF. A What next box opens with three short steps for your cover.
The home page on a phone: the title Free ISBN barcode generator, and under it the studio with the groups Books, QR code, Custom templates and More types and the book types ISBN, KDP layout, IngramSpark layout and Connect QR
Step 1: The studio is on the home page, right under the title.
The groups Books, QR code, Custom templates and More types, with Books open and the type ISBN selected. Connect QR shows a lock and Free account
Step 2: Click Books, then ISBN.
The ISBN fields: One barcode or A list up to 50, the Price and No price switch on Price, the ISBN 9781402894626 and the price USD 19.99
Steps 3 to 5: The switch on Price, the ISBN and the price typed.
PRINT CHECK for an ISBN with price: the Dark, Light and White buttons, the Ready badge, the barcode with 51999 and three green checks
Step 6: Three green checks and the badge Ready.
The What next box after a download: the file name and three steps about placing the PDF at 100%, the white box and the separations
Step 7: After you click Download vector PDF, the What next box opens.

No ISBN at hand?

Before you type anything, the picture shows an example with the badge Example. It cannot be downloaded. To try the whole flow first, click Try with an example ISBN: it types a sample number for you.

Common problems

Why it matters

The number is checked while you type, so a typo cannot reach your printer. The Scans as line in PRINT CHECK shows the number a shop scanner will read: compare it with the ISBN your agency gave you before anything is printed.
