Getting started
Why is the Download button gray or red?
Answer
On Barcode Rocket a faded, gray Download button means something is still missing, such as the number or the QR link: tap or click it and the site takes you to that field. A red button that says Fix the number to download (or the price, the QR link, the genre or the extra data) means something you typed is wrong: read the message above it and fix that field.
The gray button: something is missing
- Tap or click the gray button. The site frames the empty field and puts your cursor in it. On a computer, pointing at the button is enough to see the frame.
- Fill in that field. The button turns amber when the barcode is ready.
The site looks for what is missing in this order: the list (when you make a list), then the number, then the QR link of a Connect QR.
The red button: something is wrong
The red button names the field to fix: Fix the number to download, Fix the price to download, Fix the QR link to download, Fix the genre to download or Fix the extra data to download. That field gets a red frame, and the message above the button says what is wrong.
| The message says | What to do |
|---|---|
| The last digit (check digit) should be 7, not 4. | A digit is wrong, usually a typo. Compare every digit with your ISBN record. |
| An ISBN starts with 978 or 979. | Check the number. An old 10-digit ISBN has a 13-digit version that starts with 978. |
| $99.99 cannot be encoded in the price code. | Use 99.98 or 100.00, or leave the price empty for 90000. |
| Price too high for the price code | Leave the price empty for 90000. |

When the type needs an account
If the type needs a free account, or your email is not confirmed yet, the button stays gray and the message is shown in the picture area: for example Example. This type comes with a free account. or Unlocks when you confirm your email. Create a free account, sign in, or confirm your email. If it says This type is not enabled for your account., click Ask us and tell us what you need.
Why it matters
The button only lets you download a file that is complete and correct. A barcode with a wrong digit would scan as the wrong book, and a Connect QR label without a link would print a QR code that leads nowhere.
